Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy
Your pelvic floor muscles play an important role in supporting your bladder, bowel and
reproductive organs, as well as helping with bladder and bowel control, core stability and
overall function. When these muscles are too weak, too tight, or aren’t working as they should,
they can contribute to symptoms that affect your comfort, confidence and quality of life.
At Pro-PT, our pelvic floor physical therapy services focus on identifying and treating the
underlying causes of these concerns through individualized, evidenced base care. The best
part?? You don’t have to simply live with these symptoms!!! Pelvic floor concerns are
common but NOT NORMAL, and help is available. Our experienced team is here to provide
compassionate, personalized care in a comfortable, supportive environment where you can ask
questions, feel heard and take an active role in your recovery.
Pelvic Floor physical therapy may help address:
*Urinary leakage with coughing, sneezing, laughing or exercise
*Frequent or urgent trips to the bathroom
*Pelvic, hip, tailbone or lower abdominal pain
*Pain with sexual activity
*Pelvic pressure or a feeling of heaviness
*Certain symptoms following pregnancy, childbirth or pelvic surgery
Frequently Asked Questions:
What happens during my first appointment?
Your first visit typically includes a detailed discussion of your medical history, symptoms,
lifestyle and goals. Your physical therapist may assess your posture, breathing, core strength,
hip mobility and pelvic floor muscle function. Together you will develop an individualized
treatment plan based on your needs and comfort level.
Will I need an internal examination?
Not necessarily. Depending on your symptoms and clinical needs your therapist may
recommend an internal pelvic floor exam to assess muscle strength, tension, coordination, and
tenderness. Internal exams are performed only with your informed consent. You can ask
questions, discuss concerns, decline any part of the exam, or change your mind at any time.
External assessment and treatment may also be appropriate.
Will it be painful or uncomfortable?
It should not be something you have to push through. Some assessments or treatments may feel unfamiliar, and areas of tension or tenderness can be sensitive. Your therapist will communicate with you throughout the process, respect your comfort level and adjust treatment as needed. Your comfort, consent and trust are our priority.
Can pelvic floor physical therapy help after pregnancy or childbirth?
Yes! Pregnancy and childbirth can affect pelvic floor strength, flexibility, coordination, and
tissue function. Pelvic floor physical therapy can help address symptoms such as urinary
leakage, pelvic pressure, pain, abdominal weakness, and difficulty returning to exercise.
When Should I seek pelvic floor physical therapy?
Consider an evaluation if pelvic floor symptoms interfere with exercise, work, sleep, intimacy,
bathroom habits, or everyday activities – or if you simply have questions about your pelvic floor
health. You do not have to wait until symptoms become severe to seek help
