The Pro-PT Staff

Mary Beth Jenkins

Mary Beth has been a physical therapist for over 30 years. She graduated from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio in 1994 and spent the first few years of her career traveling the United States providing relief staff for therapy clinics in need. In 1998 she settled In Randolph County and has provided therapy services in a variety of settings throughout the area, including outpatient orthopedics, skilled nursing, and home care. Mary Beth spent 3 years as an orthopedic service line manager where she worked directly with orthopedic surgeons on protocols that involved every piece of the orthopedic experience. This included the operating room, physician offices, rehabilitation, and the emergency department. After spending time in many clinics Mary Beth decided that the people of Randolph County deserved a different type of therapy experience.

“I’ve been a patient several times in my life. I know how important it is to be comfortable with your therapist and with your therapy environment. I wanted to be able to show patients that therapy can be enjoyable and fun. I am determined to provide an atmosphere that allows every patient to leave our clinic feeling better than they did when they walked in both emotionally and physically”.

In her spare time, Mary Beth enjoys spending time with her friends and family in both Ohio and North Carolina. She enjoys traveling, reading, and hanging with her three furry children, River, Ryder and Cletus.

Ashley Flournoy

Ashley has been a physical therapist assistant for 18 years. She graduated from the PTA program at Guilford Technical Community College in Jamestown, NC in 2005. She has provided therapy services in multiple settings, including inpatient acute care, outpatient orthopedics, home health, and independent living facilities. Ashley joined Pro-PT in 2015 and loves treating in the outpatient setting, which is her favorite because of the wide range of diagnoses and ages she gets to treat.

“I always knew that I wanted to have a job where I could help people, and that is definitely true in the physical therapy profession! However, it runs much deeper than that, our clinic is so small and intimate, that we are able to form relationships with our patients.
I feel as though I have an extended family through my fellow teammates, but also through every patient that walks in the door. I hope that my patients are able to learn as much from me as I do from them.”

In her spare time, Ashley enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She is married to her high school sweetheart, Eric, and together they have two children, Jaycie and Davis. She loves Jesus, her church, dancing, music, working out, and spending time at the beach!

Sarah Webster

Sarah began her career as a Physical Therapist Assistant in early 2022, a graduate of the PTA program at Guilford Technical Community College in Jamestown, NC. When in school she attended clinical rotations in outpatient orthopedic and neurologist settings, as well as acute care in the ICU. She joined Pro-PT and quickly felt at home with the comfortable and close knit community that it provided, both between employees as well as with patients.

"Although I have not been a PTA for a lengthy amount of time, I felt since early high school that this was a career path for me. I was an employee of Pro-PT when I was a student at Guilford College, working in the office, and I always knew that if I was provided the opportunity I would return to Pro-PT as a PTA. I enjoy coming to work and challenging my patients while still making it an enjoyable and worthwhile experience. I have learned so much over the past 2 years and my patients and coworkers have helped shape me into the PTA and person I am today!"

In her spare time, Sarah enjoys spending time with her husband Caleb, and her two dogs, Charlie and Maverick. She also enjoys exercising, traveling and eating good food!

Ryan Hill

Ryan began his journey as a Physical Therapist in October of 2023. He graduated from Guilford College in 2020 with a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science and Health Sciences. Ryan has had several clinical experiences in Outpatient Orthopedic clinics where he has treated, but not limited to, patients post-joint replacement, patients dealing with low back pain, and injured athletes who are returning to play their sport. He has a passion for treating patients with a mixture of manual therapy as well as functional exercises to help them get back on the field, course, court or even return to doing all of their favorite yard work activities! Recently, Ryan finished his Level 1 Titleist Performance Institute Certification so that he can help identify movement impairments in golfers as well as others athletes.

When not in the clinic, Ryan enjoys spending time with his wife, Ellis, along with his 2 pups, Goose and Ripken! He also spends time coaching local baseball teams as well as spending time on the golf course.

Joy Palmer

Joy has worked in healthcare for more than 39 years. She graduated from Randolph Community College with an Assoc. degree in Business Administration in 1983 and from Edgecombe Community College in 2012 with an Assoc. degree in Health Information Technology. Joy is a native of Randolph County and resides in her family home place with her husband and fur babies. Joy is a retired volunteer firefighter with the Coleridge-Erect Vol. Fire Department where she served more than 20 years as a firefighter and EMT.

As an orthopedic patient with injuries derived from playing softball, Joy understands the pain and the necessity of rehab to regain full strength and use. Joy has always enjoyed the business and finance portion of working in health care. She dedicated many years to helping others and serving her community. Pro-PT gives me the opportunity to do both of these things; plus, I get to work with the wonderful fur babies! It is a blessing to work with this awesome group of people.

"Pro-Pt is a truly unique place to work. Our therapists know how to push patients to get the most benefits from their therapy while having fun doing it. It's my pleasure to go to work and help this team and our patients in any way I can".

In her spare time, Joy enjoys spending time with her husband, family, friends, and her fur babies. She enjoys day trips, reading, cooking, and enjoying life.

Derrick Atwell

Derrick graduated from the PTA program at Guilford Technical Community College in Jamestown, NC in 2000. Since then, he has provided therapy services in multiple settings, such as inpatient acute care, outpatient care (aquatic therapy), home health and skilled nursing facilities. Derrick joined Pro-PT in 2024 after recognizing the need for an aquatic therapy program in Randolph County.

"Over the years, I've had many opportunities in therapy but this has to be the most unique. This team has welcomed me and become like a second family. I hear how our patients love coming to therapy but the four-legged therapy is what makes it fun. I have seen therapy dogs working in the past and knew they were important but when they're not here—the environment is different. We all have a part to play and I'm glad to be a part of this amazing team!"

In Derrick's spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family. Derrick met his wife Heidiwhile attending Appalachian State University in Boone, NC in the early 90s and they married in '94. They have two children, Aaron and Jessica, who are now starting to make their own way in the world. He loves spending time in the outdoors hiking, backpacking, camping, and anything with water.

Ryder

Ryder was born on December 13, 2015, and was adopted by Mary Beth in February, 2016. He is a Micro-Goldendoodle and is completely hypoallergenic. Ryder started part-time employment in July 2016 and he has been eager to follow in his sister's foot-steps greeting every patient that walks in the door with happiness!! Ryder loves his job at Pro-PT and he is known to raise the energy level of the clinic with his fun-loving personality.

Clyde

Clyde was born on March 9, 2019, and was adopted by the Flournoy family on May 4, 2019. He is a petite “double-doodle” and weighs a whopping 15 pounds. He has spent almost every morning since at work at Pro-PT and has gained the heart of every person who meets him with his sweet kisses and playful personality. He has caught on well to his job as “greeter” at the clinic, and absolutely loves his best friend, Ryder!

Cletus

Cletus is our newest dog-in-training! He was born in April 2024 and joined our clinic in June, just days after being adopted by Mary Beth.
